Altar Guild -
Description:
Members of the Altar Guild perform light cleaning of the altar area as needed, including dusting the altar, chairs, and stands. They also launder altar linens as well as hand towels and purificators used during Mass and ensure that an adequate supply of fresh linens is maintained in the sacristy. In addition, they clean vessels and make sure that all items are returned to their proper storage area.
Requirements:
- Pick up linens monthly as assigned.
- Launder linens at your home and return as requested.
- During assigned week, light altar and vessel cleaning.
Altar Server Society -
Description:
Altar Servers embrace the life of the Church by assisting in the worship of our parish community. Altar Servers assist at many different occasions including Sunday Masses, weddings, funerals, baptisms, and other special services. Adult volunteers are needed occasionally to provide support for our Servers by laundering albs, chaperoning activities, and assisting with training programs.
Requirements:
Youth Participants:
- A practicing Catholic and member of St. George parish community.
- At least 10 years of age (high school teens are also welcome).
- Participation in a six-week training program.
- Availability to serve Mass about once a month.
Adult Participants:
- Two hours a month to help with laundering albs(at home).
- Availability to chaperone, on occasion for special events.
- Adults who wish to work with children and teens directly must complete a criminal background check and fingerprinting (according to Archdiocesan regulations).
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion -
Pope John Paul said "The Eucharist, as Christ's saving presence in the community of the faithful and its spiritual food, is the most precious possession which the Church can have in her journey through history." The aspect of this gift that stands out above all others is the reality of Christ's real presence under the form of bread and wine.
Description:
The Eucharist Minister distributes the precious Body and Blood of Christ at Mass and to our homebound parishioners.
Requirements:
- Attend an in-parish training program.
- Serve assigned Masses once or twice monthly.
- For Homebound visits, join the Care Ministry team.
Greeters -
The usher and greeter ministries have been a part of worship services for centuries before the time of Christ. Since the Second Vatican Council, this ministry has been greatly expanded.
Description:
Greeters are often the first to meet new parishioners and help create an impression of a friendly parish. This ministry provides a great opportunity to serve at our Liturgy and in the parish in general.
Requirements:
- Assist at assigned Masses one to two times monthly.
- Arrive at church 15 minutes before Mass to greet parishioners.
- Take up collections during Mass.
- Arrange for gift bearers at the Offertory.
- Remain after Mass to greet parishioners and perform housekeeping.
Lectors -
The Word of God comes to us in Sacred Scripture and contains the very essence of salvation for God's children. The Scripture creates, is effective and endures.
Description:
The lector helps make the Word of God present in the congregation during the liturgy.
Requirements:
- Participate in a lector training program at the parish level.
- Serve assigned Masses once or twice monthly.
- Attend lector workshops held every two months.
Liturgy Committee -
Description:
The liturgy committee prepares the different aspects of worship for our parish community. This planning includes music, poetry, and art.Committee members use resources available through our archdiocese to prepare liturgies that encourage our congregation to enter deeply into the life of the Church - to aide the faithful toward achieving the goal of worship, "full, conscious and active participation".
Requirements:
- A willingness to learn and share ideas.
- Attendance at quarterly committee meetings.
- Availability to help with time-limited tasks throughout the year(such as setting up for special services).
