Adult Education Advisory Board -
Description:
The board is a group of parish volunteers who discuss ideas for ongoing adult education in our parish. Their goal is to select topics that will be of interest to our community and to assist the pastor in preparing materials or recruiting guest lecturers. Members also assist the pastor in scheduling days of recollection and parish retreats.
Requirements:
- An interest in participating in adult educational opportunities as they are available.
- Availability for quarterly meetings.
- Willingness to help organize events, such as preparing fliers and mailings.
- An ability to work collaboratively with others to generate ideas for future programs.
Bible Study -
Description:
Selected books of the Bible are read and studied using the Collegeville Bible Commentary and study guide from Little Rock Scripture Study. Groups are kept small to facilitate bonding and lively discussion. Sessions are opened with prayer, questions are discussed, a video to better understand the lesson is viewed, and the session is closed with prayer.
Requirements:
- One hour weekly for nine weeks.
- Daily assignments take approximately 20 minutes except for the first day when commentary and chapter reading may require up to one hour.
Religious Education -
Description:
The catechist teaches or co-teaches one of the Religious Education classes offered to parish families from kindergarten through eighth grade. Classes are held at the church hall and are an extension of the Catholic faith being taught at home. Special retreats are held for First Eucharist and Confirmation candidates to assist in their journey of faith during these special sacraments.
Catechists have a variety of reference materials available to assist in class preparation and teaching. Teacher Aid opportunities are also available. Classes also participate in other special events throughout the year such as May Procession, Christmas Pageant, Passion Play, children's liturgies, children's choir, etc.
Requirements:
Catechist:
- Attend annual kick-off meeting.
- Dedicate time during the school year (September through early May) to teach the class.
- K through 4th grade meet Sundays (see the current schedule for times).
- 5th through 8th grade meet Sundays (see the current schedule for times).
- Review Course work during the week in preparation for the class.
- Coordinate teacher aid support.
- Participate in occasional teacher workshops.
- Adults who work with children and teens directly must complete a criminal background check, fingerprinting and attend requested classes (according to Archdiocesan regulations).
Teacher Aid:
- Help gather or prepare hands-on items needed for weekly classes.
- Assist students who may need extra help during class sessions.
- Substitute for the lead teacher if needed.
- Participate in occasional teacher workshops.
- Adults who work with children and teens directly must complete a criminal background check, fingerprinting and attend requested classes (according to Archdiocesan regulations).
RCIA Sponsor -
Description:
The RCIA sponsor provides support to candidates in the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adult (RCIA) program. They attend classes and other rites during the year and assist their candidate along the journey of faith.
Sponsors have a variety of reference materials available to facilitate discussion such as a study guide, videos, and consultations with the priest and deacon.
Requirements:
- Attend weekly class sessions from Fall through Spring.
- Participate in the Rite on Sundays during Lent.
- Take part in the Day of Recollection on Good Friday.
- Support your candidate during the Holy Saturday Easter Vigil.
Youth Ministry -
The Church and world need the faith, gifts, energy, and fresh ideas of young people. The entire Church, and in a special way ministry with adolescents, must empower young people for their mission in the world."(Renewing the Vision, United States Catholic Conference)
Description:
The high school youth program provides spiritual, social, and service activities for the teens of our parish and community. The program's goal is to draw teens into responsible participate in the life, mission and work of our Catholic faith community.
Requirements:
- Training through an Archdiocesan workshop. The program helps equip adults by teaching them basic leadership and ministerial skills.
- Adult who wish to work with children and teens must complete a criminal background check and fingerprinting (according to Archdiocesan regulations)
- Participation at twice-monthly meetings and activities.
